SOCCSKSARGEN’S entries to the National Literacy Awards, both coming from the province of Sarangani, won 2nd and 3rd prizes during the awarding ceremony held in Mandaluyong City, December 1.

Conrado and Ladislawa Alcantara Foundation, Inc. (CLAFI), bagged 2nd place in the non-government organizations category, bringing home a cash prize of Php 80,000.00 and a trophy.

In the local government units category, the municipality of Malungon garnered 3rd place with a cash prize of Php 60,000 plus a trophy.

The 2022 National Literacy Awards aims to recognize best literacy practices carried out by local government units and nongovernment organizations that help alleviate poverty, provide livelihood opportunities, address welfare needs, promote freedom, and make education facilities accessible, among others.

In a post on social media, Mayor Ma. Theressa Constantino considered the awards as “another national recognition that will motivate and inspire our leaders and partner stakeholders to work together towards Innovation and Collaboration in Achieving No limitation in education (I CAN!) for a more dynamic, future-ready, and literate community.”

She thanked the people who worked behind the success of their literacy programs.

“None of this would have been achieved without the unity, cooperation, & dedication of the key individuals and civil society organizations that help us promote and improve our literacy advocacies,” she wrote.

CLAFI’s Project Officer for literacy programs, April Mae Domingo, dedicated the recognition to all their volunteers and partners and thanked DepEd Sarangani for the nomination.

CLAFI has been a constant partner of DepEd Sarangani in its various programs for many years.
